5 Things You Should Do Before Hiring a Web Designer

The process of hiring a Web Design Company isn’t easy but you need to do it. Your website is your online storefront and digital brand that operates 24/7 for your business. The world is introduced to your company through your website.

So you’re thinking about a redesign of an existing website or building a website from scratch. You want the best possible company to work with. So what should you do first. Search Google and line up some calls with some companies?Nope. Here are ten five you should do first before going down that route:

1: Ask Your Friends / Colleagues

Ask around!?! Use your professional network to ask around for recommendations on Web Design companies that they have used in the past.
Ideally, you want someone that they have used before and has worked with many brands around Ireland.
There are so many Web Designers in Dublin, let alone the Ireland that can help you create a website for your business. Some people prefer to sit down with people and talk it through face to face others can work over Skype. It’s important to find someone that works for you.
If you have asked around and can’t find anyone suitable then simply search for “web design dublin” or ‘web design Ireland’ on Google and it should shape your process.

2: Know your website goals and priorities

Before contacting a Web Design company you need to ask yourself what do I want the customer to do on my website!?!
Is it going to be used to display services, products, a brochure website, are we going to be selling products online, do we require lead capture forms etc. A good web design company will be able to help you with that but it is important to have a clear idea of the macro objectives for the site.

3: Budget

Building a website is quite like building a house, it sometimes can cost more than you expect. Don’t be scared, just be prepared. Do some research to see what the going rate is in the area / county. If you’re based in Dublin, contact a few companies and get a gauge for the market.

Knowing your budget for the project is important but also knowing how much the ongoing costs of running website in my opinion are more important. Before you engage with a company, ask them what are their maintenance and support fees to manage the website are. Monthly plans can suit companies better as they don’t have to invest in a years subscription.

4: Give Each Page a Purpose

What is the goal of each page? How many pages do you want your website to have? Above are just a few questions you need to ask yourself before approaching a web design company. The best solution to this is to find websites your like in your industry and try to copy their structure to create some along the same lines. If you have no idea where to start with this use the framework below.

  • Home
  • About
  • FAQ
  • Product or Service Details
  • Contact

5: Images, graphics, and pictures

Any image owned by you for your website should go in this shared folder. What does it mean to own an image? We’ll cover that in #9 below.

These are just 5 very basic points that could save you both time and money before you hire a web design company. I hope it helps.
